Storefront Light Up – Get Involved, Build Your Community, Get Money, Help us Celebrate and Show SPR Pride!

As winter approaches, the temperature drops, and the days get shorter, our spirits might not always be the brightest. This is why the Stony Plain Road Business Association would like to work with you to bring some light into our darker evenings this winter by creating a Storefront Festive Light-Up!

Here is how it works:

1. Decide that you want to take part in lighting up your storefront!

2. Contact us here at the SPR Business Association and let us know that you are interested in participating and if you have social media (so we can promote your business).

3. Take a picture of your storefront lit up and we will send you $50 to help with the costs and time of making our area brighter! We do not need copies of you receipts, just a picture when your decorating is done.

4. We will then create marketing and promotions around this campaign and will will also be awarding some prizes including:
People’s Choice Prize ($300) – voted on through social media,
Most Creative Prize ($500) and,
You Light Up My Life Prize (2nd place – $200).

5. The Storefront Festive Light Up will run from November 27, 2020 to January 2, 2021, but if you would like to leave your lights up earlier or later that’s fine too!

If you would like to participate or if you have any questions, please reach out to

City of Edmonton Survey – Make Your Opinions Known

The City of Edmonton is conducting a survey with business owners and managers to gather perceptions on Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) within the City.

As an external consultant, Leger has been contracted by the City of Edmonton to conduct a survey with businesses that are members of a BIA. The survey will take approximately 3-5 minutes to complete.

Flower Review Committee – Get Involved to Make Things Better!

Each year the Stony Plain Road & Area invests resources and funds into flower baskets, barrels and raised beds. We are looking for a small group of members to help us review what we currently do and how we might better invest into a program that will meet our desired needs of a flower and horticultural program. Members will also help develop a proposed plan for Spring 2021.

Time Commitment: We anticipate about four gatherings between October and December 2020 with a duration of about 60 – 90 minutes each. With AHS recommendations we will mainly be meeting via Google Meets and may include a small group walk-about to look at some spots of our business improvement area. Some individual research exploring other areas and their approaches will also be required.

We are looking for an engaged dialogue about why and how we can use a flower and plant program to help create safer and visually appealing place-making within our business area between 140 – 170 Street along the Stony Plain Road corridor. We would also like to explore options with business sharing and partnerships including Boulevards In Bloom, permanent plants, window boxes, hanging planters and raised beds and barrels. Ideally, we would also like to balance our environmental impacts and create inviting spaces for positive community interactions.

Interested individuals should contact Todd Janes, Executive Director at 780-477-5169 or via email at on or before November 2, 2020.

Mandatory Masks – Knowledge is Power

– As of October 26, a mandatory 15 person limit on all gatherings in Edmonton & Calgary is in effect.

– This limit applies to dinner parties, banquets, retirement parties, baby shower, wedding and funeral receptions and other social gatherings.

– It does not currently change measures for structured events such as dining in restaurants, theatres, worship services, wedding and funeral celebrations.

– This temporary limit will be reassessed in one month.

– All residents and visitors to Edmonton are strongly encouraged by the Province to implement special measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
